Preparing a Winning Manuscript for a Literary Contest or Publication
Sept. 17, 2012 7-9 pm
University Center, Traverse City (Room TBD)
In this two hour workshop, writer, editor and instructor of writing, Holly Wren Spaulding will explain the basics of the literary submission process, how to assemble a class-A manuscript, and what to expect when you send your work out for consideration by a journal, publication, contest or small (or large!) press.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of genre, although this will be especially useful to those who already have a manuscript-in-progress. Topics will include preparing your documents to the industry standard, what to expect once you’ve sent your work out, and what you can do to assure that your work is taken seriously by editors, screeners and judges.
Participants will receive the latest guidelines for the 2012 chapbook prize from Michigan Writers Cooperative Press and can have their questions answered by an experienced editor, screener and a 2008 winner of that prize in the poetry category.
Other representatives of Michigan Writers, including John Mauk (chair of M.W. Cooperative Press), will be on hand to answer questions about publishing opportunities in the region.
